Danny Garcia Wants Terence Crawford At 154 Pounds

Danny Garcia wants to face to face Terence Crawford at junior middleweight.

Crawford was on course to face Spence in the rematch, but it appears he has distanced himself from the fight. He knocked out Spence in round nine to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era. Spence activated his rematch clause with the hope of fighting at 154 pounds.

Several suggestions emerged for Spence’s below-par performance, with his supporters claiming he could not make welterweight. Spence did not endorse those suggestions, but he did state that his cataract surgery after the fight dealt with a vision problem that was there in the Crawford bout. That was the last straw for Crawford, who moved on.

“I done heard it all now @ErrolSpenceJr it’s ok tho because all in all I’m glad it’s over and done with. I wish you well ma brotha,” Crawford stated

Now, Garcia could become a beneficiary. Garcia has not fought since he faced Jose Benavidez Jr. in 2022, but the former two-weight world champion must get past his potential fight against Erislandy Lara first. Garcia’s record since 2017 has been 4-3, showing he is not in the best form. But he fancied his chances against Crawford.

Garcia On Crawford

“I wish I could fight anybody because I know that any fight that I want, I could make it happen. I know I could make any fight I want happen. [And] I don’t say I wish, but any fight could happen. It’s not that hard to make it happen. I’d like to be a little active going into that fight [Crawford], though. So, I definitely want to fight [Erislandy] Lara and win that fight. After I fight Lara, then anything can happen,” Garcia said

Despite this, Garcia offers Crawford very little reason to face him. He has no belts, nor is he in the best form. But if Crawford moves up to the top 154 pounds, Garcia could be a good introduction to the division.

Garcia has only had one fight at 154 pounds against Benavidez Jr. but he has been walking above welterweight for most of his career, showing he is suited to the weight class. But there are suggestions that Garcia is no longer the same fighter. He failed to fight in 2023, and nothing has been officially signed despite the links with Lara. But Garcia shut down any claims that his hunger is no longer there.

Garcia’s Aims

“I wanted to fight in 2023. I’d love to fight two times this year, but as people don’t know, it’s not that simple for any fighter. I just got to get this Lara fight popping, and then we’ll see what happens after that. That’s the only thing that’s on my radar right now is that fight,” Danny Garcia stated

Crawford aims to become a three-weight undisputed champion by targeting the Canelo Alvarez fight. But if that bout does not occur, there is a chance that Garcia becomes one of those in contention to face Bud. But to do that, Garcia must stay active. And there is no getting away from that.
