Danny Garcia Gives His Take On The Spence-Crawford Rematch

Danny Garcia felt the Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford rematch could be a lot more competitive.

Bud dominated Spence to stop the ‘Truth’ in the ninth round to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era.

The victory included three knockdowns, as Spence simply had no answer to the firepower that was coming his way.

Following the fight, there were suggestions that Spence struggled with the 147 weight limit. And now a rematch is likely to take place at 154, something which Garcia felt could have an impact on the fight.

Garcia On Spence-Crawford

“I think it was just the domino effect with the punishment of the car accident, to be honest with you. It finally caught up to him, and he’s been at that weight [147] for a long time. So I think it’s all of that, but I don’t take nothing away from Crawford. He was definitely the better man that night. I probably have to go with Crawford because of how good he looked, but he is going up to a higher weight class, and remember he started at 135,” Garcia

Nevertheless, another defeat for Spence will lead to calls on him to retire and walk away from the sport. And with everything on the line, there can be no excuses this time around.

After all, Crawford also admitted that the weight cut for him was tight. Therefore, there is no guarantee that Spence will be able to turn things around at junior middleweight.

And yet, Garcia has faced Spence which is why he is more qualified than most to speak on this. And after having lost via a unanimous decision, Garcia knew he was facing a quality opponent.

Garcia On Spence

“I don’t regret it. You know why? Because it was a good fight. He’s a great champion. I’m a great champion. And sometimes you got to test yourself. You’re not always gonna feel good. You’re not always gonna be at your best. Sometimes you have a great camp, wake up, and don’t feel good the day of the fight. Some days you got a terrible camp and feel great. Everything happens for a reason. It is what it is. You got to learn and build from it,” Garcia
