Crawford Could Take $200 Million To Fight McGregor

Terence Crawford has said that he is tempted to fight Conor McGregor.

McGregor revealed that he had offered Crawford a deal for two fights. The first would have been in MMA, whilst the other would have been in a boxing fight. McGregor has one boxing fight under his belt, which occurred when he faced off against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. He was stopped in the 10th round but won many plaudits.

He managed to last so long against one of the best-ever fighters. While he may have come up short, the fight earned him a reported $100 million. He secured his financial future and broadened his appeal even further. Crawford reacted to the news of the two-fight deal, stating that he had turned it down as he was reluctant to take leg kicks from McGregor.

“I told Conor to himself; I said, ‘Hell naw. They called me, they offered me the fight. Me and Conor got on the phone; we started politicking, you know, trying to figure something out. I just told him, ‘Man, I’m not getting in no octagon with you so you can be kicking me and elbowing me. He was like, ‘But we’ll make a  ton of money. I said, ‘Yeah, sometimes it ain’t about the money.’ I can make money, but you ain’t about to be kicking me, dude. Them kicks and elbows, that ain’t no joke,” Crawford said

Crawford Reacts

He does not have an MMA fight under his belt. But he does have wrestling experience, which he has shared on social media. While this is an entirely different matter than facing a two-weight UFC world champion, Crawford has said that he is tempted to take it.

Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following. Crawford is chasing a legacy fight against Canelo Alvarez at super middleweight. Bud is the current WBA Champion at junior middleweight after having beaten Israil Madrimov in his last fight. He has options for unifying at 154 pounds with Sebastian Fundora, the WBO and WBC champion. His primary goal has been chasing Canelo. The Mexican said he did not want the fight because he would get no credit for beating a smaller fighter.

Other Options

Alvarez changed his tune by revealing he would be open to the fight. Outside of that, Crawford has few options if he wants a big purse. There is the opportunity to face Jaron Ennis. Ennis is the IBF Welterweight Champion struggling to get the big fights. He is seen as the future of the welterweight division. He has been linked with the Crawford fight for some time. They were on course to face each other at 147.

Ennis was Crawford’s IBF mandatory, but Bud had a rematch clause with Errol Spence Jr. The Spence rematch never happened, as Crawford was stripped. Bud then moved up to 154. Crawford could take the Ennis fight for a big payday. But there is a huge risk. Ennis does not offer any belts, nor does it do anything for Crawford’s legacy. That has left fans wondering whether he should take that money from McGregor. It is $200 million for two fights, which would secure the rest of his financial future.
