The UFC has confirmed Makhachev versus Garry as the main event of UFC 330 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with the welterweight championship on the line.

Makhachev vacated his lightweight belt last November to challenge Jack Della Maddalena for the 170-pound title at UFC 322, winning it to become a two-division champion and extending his winning streak to 16 — a mark that ties Anderson Silva's all-time UFC record.

After a decision loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov interrupted what had been an unbeaten run, the Irishman responded with back-to-back victories over Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad in November 2025, rebuilding his case for a title shot and arriving at UFC 330 as the division's number one ranked contender at 17-1.

The matchup is a stylistic puzzle worth paying attention to. Makhachev has built his career on a grappling-dominant approach that has neutralised opponents who looked capable of beating him on the feet. Garry is a fluid, technically precise striker with the footwork and range management to make cage walks difficult.

Whether Garry can keep the fight standing long enough to make his striking the determining factor, or whether Makhachev's wrestling establishes control early, is the central question Philadelphia will answer.

The co-main event places the strawweight title on the line as Mackenzie Dern defends against Gillian Robertson. Dern claimed the belt vacated by Zhang Weili with a victory over Virna Jandiroba at UFC 321 in October 2025, adding a world title to a career that had previously been defined by her submission credentials without quite reaching the championship. Robertson arrives on a five-fight winning streak, most recently outpointing Amanda Lemos by unanimous decision in March.
