Conor McGregor’s Coach Praises His Motivation

In the latest MMA news, John Kavanagh, who happens to be Conor McGregor’s coach, has backed his fighter to return with a bang.

McGregor’s last fight was all the way back at UFC 264 in 2021 as the Irishman lost to Dustin Poirier. During the course of that process, the ‘Notorious’ broke his leg which required extensive surgery.

And after around two years out, McGregor has finally enrolled into USADA. Provided that the MMA fighter provides two negative samples over a six month period, McGregor should be cleared to fight. With that being said, Kavanagh had been impressed by the drive that McGregor was still showing.

Kavanagh On McGregor

“If you take away somebody’s financial motivation for doing something, you really learn what they want to do. He didn’t pick up golf. He didn’t start doing fishing. He’s not someone to go on six-month type holidays. Wherever he goes, there’s a gym with him with his trainers and nutritionists. That’s been since the leg break. Nothing has changed since then.

“Just today, I sent him a message, and he sent me a message back on the mats rolling with a black belt where he is now… He’s training away and very hungry. I’m looking forward to the return next year, whenever that date is. I don’t know where or when it is, but I am looking forward to that inevitable return,” Kavanagh

And yet, McGregor will have to consider whether the aim is to fight for legacy or currency. The star is still one of the most talked-about fighters in the UFC. And naturally that does result in the fighter being a cash cow of the sport.

But given that McGregor has been absent for so long, will the fighter still be able to headline events? That is something that will have to be considered moving forward.

After all, despite having the motivation, there is a question mark over whether McGregor can recapture his best form. The star has lost the last three out of his four MMA fights, with suggestions that McGregor is past the days that made him a two-weight world champion.

McGregor Meets A Fan

Regardless, the Irishman continues to inspire the next generation of fighters as such in the following encounter. In the following images, McGregor was on hand to promote his whiskey when he encountered a fan by the name of Ricardo.

The fighter can be seen meeting the young fan who was completely overwhelmed by the encounter.  In response, this is what the ‘Notorious’ had to say.

“There is someone out there who looks up to you. Who wants to see you at your best. Who wants to see you succeed. Do it for them! Great to meet you Riccardo, let’s go my man, we got this,” McGregor said

In reality, McGregor must do his talking in the cage. And if he can comeback with a statement win, then it won’t be too long before his name is mentioned for the big fights.
