Conceicao Vs. Foster CompuBox Numbers

O’Shaquie Foster avenged his defeat against Robson Conceicao to regain his WBC Super Featherweight Title in a split decision, as we look at the CompuBox numbers.

The scorecards were 115-113, 115-113 and 113-115 as Foster became a two-time WBC Super Featherweight Champion. The first fight showed the CompuBox numbers in favor of Foster. Foster connected with around 25.1% of the punches in their first fight. That was equivalent to 109 out of 435 punches. That included  33.7% of power punches. In contrast, Conceicao connected with only 10.8% of the punches. This time around, CompuBox showed a different side to the story. Conceicao threw 565 punches, landing  27% of those shots.

In contrast, Foster connected with 40% of his power punches in the rematch, an increase from the 34% power punches in the first fight. But Foster moved ahead in the championship rounds, connecting with  30 power punches in rounds 11 and 12, compared to Conceicao, who landed with 18. This naturally raises question marks over where Foster goes next. He has targeted a fight with Oscar Valdez. The latter is the WBO Interim Super Featherweight Champion.

A win over Valdez puts him in line to face the WBO Super Featherweight Champion Emanuel Navarrete. Valdez’s record is 32-2, with 24 wins by way of knockout. His only losses have come against Shakur Stevenson and Navarrete. Valdez’s record is not the best, having only won two of his last four bouts. The other option Foster wanted is against Navarrete. The latter faced off against Conceicao, which ended in a controversial draw. Navarrete then suffered a loss against Denys Berinchyk.

“He’s a helluva fighter, it’s unbelievable. I told you I was gonna step it up and bring it to him and that’s what I did. I’m still not satisfied with my performance, but I showed my versatility. I thought I had him for a moment. He’s a veteran. He’s been around the game a long time and he knows how to survive. I want the winner of Emanuel Navarrete-Oscar Valdez,” Foster said

Conceicao’s Aim

As for Conceicao, he is fully aware of what it is like to lose out in title fights. His losses have come against Shakur Stevenson, Oscar Valdez and now Foster. Conceicao is not letting that get to him, as he has targeted a rematch for a trilogy. If Foster cannot secure a fight to unify or another big fight in the division, there is a narrative in place to run things back.

“I’m happy because I know what I did in the ring today. I know I did a good job,. For me, he’s a good fighter, and I can’t speak poorly of him. But I know I did a good job today in the ring,” Conceicao said

“The fight was tough, and it was close, but I thought I did a good job. For me, he is a good fighter, and I know he has a great story. If he accepts the rematch, like I accepted the rematch, he should show that same amount of respect. Right now, we are 1-1,” Conceicao added
