Charlo Slams Bradley’s Criticism, Canelo Refuses To Fight McGregor And More
November 15, 2023
2 years

Jermell Charlo has responded to Tim Bradley’s suggestions that he will not be able to deal with Canelo Alvarez’s power at super middleweight.
Charlo will fight above 154 for the first time in his career, as he jumps up two weight classes to fight at 168 pounds.
The perception entering into the fight is that Canelo’s power will prove too much for Charlo to deal with in the later rounds.
So much so that Bradley foresaw Charlo coming up short. This was on the basis that Bradley foresaw Terence Crawford even stopping him.
Therefore, given that Crawford fights at 147 even if he will move up to 154, facing Canelo at 168 is a whole different ball game.
“He knows how to beat Charlo already. His team knows how to beat Charlo already. It’s gonna be destruction. The same if not sooner. He’ll probably stop Charlo a lot sooner,” Charlo
And yet, the latter had a few choice words to say.
Charlo On Bradley
“I think Tim Bradley has got a lot of hate towards a lot of things that people. When you dare to be great right now, you know you can’t worry about what Tim Bradley saying. He don’t even know about PBC boxing and what we possess over here, and that’s why Al [Haymon] got us, and he signed us. Oh well, people are going to have their thoughts and say what they want to say. “I can’t go back into living my life, trying to be that guy and try to think about what he’s thinking. I just focus on me, staying focused on the game plan and work my a** off,” Charlo
Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. Bradley did back Terence Crawford to beat Errol Spence, showing that the former world champion does know a thing or two about picking the winner in big fights.
And since Charlo is Spence’s stablemate, there may be a desire to put that bad night behind with a win over Canelo.
Canelo On McGregor
In contrast, Canelo Alvarez has dismissed the idea of facing Conor McGregor in a boxing match.
Following his last fight in 2021 against Dustin Poirier, the ‘Notorious’ has kept himself away from the cage, as he sought to recover from his broken leg.
Although that may have been the case, there were suggestions that McGregor could return to fight Michael Chandler this year.
However, his failure to enroll in USADA has thrown a potential spanner in the works. Therefore, McGregor has been keeping an eye on the boxing scene.
In the aftermath of the Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius fight, McGregor called out KSI for a boxing match.
And given that he has done the same previously with Canelo, those comments got the attention of Alvarez.
“I saw [John] Ryder, I’m a southpaw, Ryder was a southpaw, Billy Joe [Saunders] was a southpaw, I’ve seen methods, I’ve seen things I’d do. I know he’s waining, I’d fight Canelo no f****g problem. Out straight. No problem,” McGregor
In response, this is what Canelo had to say: “He’s crazy. Conor? Yeah, maybe [I would fight him] after I retire.”
McGregor On Chandler
With that being the case, it appears that McGregor has turned his attention to Chandler once again. Provided that he gets an exemption from USADA, then there could very well be a bout between him and Chandler this year.
And given that he has been out of action since 2021 with a broken leg, it is understandable that McGregor wanted to take his time to recuperate.
Any further damage to the leg could end up ruining McGregor’s career. And at the age of 35, with nothing much left to prove in the sport, the Irishman has to time his comeback perfectly. And by the looks of it, he is ready to go.
“I’ve industrial steel in my leg now, and I’ve long natural steel in the shoulders and elbows and knuckles of the fist. I’m over 3/4 steel. And steel crushes iron. Crushes the little bones in irons face. Out with the iron you little bosu ball motivational speakin handbag,” McGregor
Charlo and McGregor have the chance to make history moving forward. But whether they can back up their word’s is anyone’s guess.
However, both stars have achieved what most never will in their respective sports. And that is something that should be commended moving forward.
