Dana White & Jake Paul ‘Face-Off’
Dana White and Jake Paul met face-to-face during the CFP National Championship Game at Hard Rock Stadium, resulting in a strong reaction from fans.
The pair do not have the best relationship. White has been critical over Jake’s boxing career, even stating that he wanted him tested. Meanwhile, The Problem Child has been highly critical of Dana’s compensation structure for UFC fighter pay, stating more needs to be done. The pair were captured on video in a luxury skybox during the Indiana vs. Miami matchup, with President Donald Trump in between.
The interaction appeared to show White inquiring about Jake’s broken jaw from his sixth-round stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua, with Paul confirming the injury. Paul had four titanium plates surgically implanted to repair the fracture. And yet, White had previously described the Paul-Joshua bout was a “f***ing bad idea,” stating all those involved should be “embarrassed.”
“It’s crazy that that fight was even allowed to happen. Crazy. I don’t know (what Paul’s future is). As long as people want to pay to watch him fight, I guess he can keep doing it. It’s just not what I do. To even comment on it, I think everybody that was involved in that thing should be embarrassed, No. 1. And No. 2, it’s just not what I’m into. Not my thing,” White stated
The Reality
The core reason their relationship is unlikely to heal is that their goals are different. Jake Paul has built his combat sports brand by positioning himself as the “anti-Dana,” constantly attacking the UFC’s fighter pay and healthcare structures. For White, acknowledging Jake as a legitimate figure in the combat sports world would mean validating a critic who has consistently targeted the UFC’s profit model. While White recently softened his stance on Paul being “banned” from UFC events, he is not keen on Jake’s boxing models.
The presence of Donald Trump, who acted as a buffer between the two, must also be taken into account. Both White and Paul are vocal supporters of the president, and this provided the only bridge between them. As long as they are in the same social circles, we will likely see more of these “polite” interactions.
