Bomac Blames Spence’s Trainer For The Loss, Abel Sanchez Also Reacts

Terence Crawford’s trainer, Brian McIntyre (Bomac), has blamed Derrick James for any problems Spence may have had in his preparation for the fight.

Crawford became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era by stopping the ‘Truth’ in the ninth round. Prior to this, there were three knockdowns before the referee pulled the fight.

The failure of Spence to trouble Crawford raised questions over whether he looked right at the weight. Although that may be the case, Bomac made it clear that any deficiencies were down to James. Ultimately, no excuses can come on fight night given that both fighters had plenty of time to prepare.

“I would say that is [an excuse]. Again, you know, he had to weigh in the same weight as Bud. He knew about the fight months before, so, I mean, if he was weight drained, that’s just bad coaching on Derrick James’ part.

“We all had the right amount of time to prepare for this fight. I’m not looking for no excuses or anything of that nature. Errol had no excuses; everybody else did,” Bomac

And by the looks of it, there were some issues in the preparation. Trainer Abel Sanchez opened up about the state of Spence’s health during the final pre-fight presser.

Sanchez was adamant that Spence had lost the weight too quickly, which had ultimately drained him to the point where he was not able to show his best.

Although Spence made the weight, he is a naturally bigger fighter who has spoken about moving up from 147 numerous times. And ultimately, it could have been a case of making welterweight one too many times.

“He looked like a different fighter walking into the ring. His eyes looked bad to me. I was at a house with a couple of officers, and the comments they made, ‘He looks like he’s loaded. His eyes look like he’s loaded; he’s not all there,’ and then I saw a picture of him. I’m not saying he was, but he didn’t look complete…He looked like a skeleton to me. His face looked so thin, so gaunt.“So, in my opinion, he wasn’t all there,” Sanchez
