Bellew Warns Dubois Over Joshua - 'He'll Wake Up In An Ambulance'

Tony Bellew has warned Daniel Dubois that he could suffer serious punishment from Anthony Joshua

Dubois boxes Anthony Joshua on September 21 in an IBF Heavyweight Title clash. Dubois became the full champion once Oleksandr Usyk vacated. Daniel is in good form, having won his last two fights. He stopped Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic to bounce back from his loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

The fight against Hrgovoc, however, showed some worrying signs for Dubois. The heavyweight was hit by numerous right hands in the opening few rounds. While Dubois absorbed the shots to eventually stop Hrgovic, Bellew warned Dubois that the fight would be over if Joshua landed the same shots.

Bellew Reacts

“I think Anthony Joshua knocks Daniel Dubois out inside three rounds. Everything that Daniel Dubois does well, Anthony Joshua does better. Daniel Dubois is a strong puncher, he’s heavy handed but Anthony Joshua is stronger and faster.

“He got hit with 45 right hands in four rounds against Filip Hrgovic. He’ll get hit with three against Anthony Joshua and he’ll wake up in an ambulance. Anthony Joshua has dynamite in his gloves. Don’t get me wrong, Daniel Dubois is a puncher too, so he does have a puncher’s chance, but I rate it at 70-30, 80-20 in Joshua’s favour,” Bellew said

In his last two fights, Joshua has shown that Dubois could be in trouble. AJ teamed up with Ben Davidson following Derrick James’ departure. He made Otto Wallin quit on his stool in the first fight. A second-round KO of Francis Ngannou followed that up. Joshua is known for being the most explosive combination boxer in the division.

Dubois’ Trainer

Despite this, Dubois’ trainer Don Charles said they are working on their defense. This is vital as the fight is seen as a case of who can land first. Joshua was stopped before, as Andy Ruiz stopped him on AJ’s American debut. Usyk almost stopped Joshua in their first fight. The Ukrainian had Joshua backed up on the ropes, only for the final bell to save him in the final round. Charles felt they had enough firepower to cause damage.

“We have a lot of work to do. The defence, everyone has latched on to that and him getting with right hands. Yes we can see that and we are trying to improve. They say ‘he will get knocked out by AJ’ because he is leaking right hands. But in boxing when you throw a right hand, you are also in danger of being hit with one yourself.

“If they are foolish enough to bank on that, they have something else coming. We aren’t ignorant we are going to work on it. He took far too many against Hrgovic. That wasn’t the plan, but we will rectify that in the Joshua fight and we are not going to this time. When we go and beat up Anthony Joshua, what are they going to say next?” Charles stated

However, Joshua has much more experience. He is a former two-time Unified Heavyweight Champion. He has been on the biggest stage and gotten over the line. Meanwhile, Dubois came up short in his title fight against Usyk. Can he go one better this time?
