Anthony Joshua-Daniel Dubois betting preview: Joshua is Ready to Hold Heavyweight Boxing Gold Once Again
The politics of boxing and what is best for the sport often need to be aligned. With so many different organizations offering championships, it’s impossible for things to be legislated any other way. After becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 24 years, Oleksandr Usyk vacated the IBF belt not long after winning it in May.
Usyk didn’t want to fight the IBF’s mandatory challenge because of his rematch clause with Tyson Fury, who planned to want another shot at Usyk following a split-decision loss. But now the IBF is preparing to crown another champion this weekend.
Anthony Joshua would like a third shot at Usyk. But online boxing news shows that people still want him to earn it. Joshua’s fight with Daniel Dubois this weekend shows that Joshua, a former heavyweight champion, is the favorite. But he isn’t an overwhelming favorite.
Here’s a look at some bets worth making on the main event and the other fights on the card. This should be a fun event with an all-British main contest. Both boxers will want to turn in a strong performance at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
Dubois Would Like Another Look at Usyk
Joshua and Dubois both have their issues with Usyk. But Dubois’ beef
likely runs a little deeper. During Dubois’ fight with Usyk, he suffered a ninth-round KO loss.
However, Dubois complained that he wasn’t actually knocked out, and he was hit with an illegal low blow. But the appeal failed. Before the loss to Usyk, Dubois was on a four-fight winning streak. Throughout Dubois’ career, he has been an all-or-nothing kind of fighter.
But heavyweight boxing news shows that Dubois’ last performance may have been his best. He knocked out Filip Hrogvic in June to claim the IBF interim heavyweight title. Dubois has seen 22 of his 23 career fights end inside the distance.
Joshua on the Verge of Being on Top Again
Joshua, 34, isn’t getting any younger. But the former Olympian doesn’t appear ready to fade in boxing updates tonight. Joshua’s last fight saw him defending boxing’s honor against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.
But beating Ngannou means that Joshua hasn’t had a serious test since he beat Otto Wallin last December. Joshua is motivated to try and find a way to get back at Usyk and become the undisputed champion himself. Joshua is 28-3 overall and he has collected 25 of his wins by knockout.
Joshua should continue that trend in this fight. While Joshua’s stock has fallen a little since his back-to-back losses to Usyk, Usyk has proven with his win over Fury that he is the best heavyweight in the world right now. If Joshua tries to rip that title away, it has to come with a dominant performance against Dubois.
Bets to consider: Under 7.5 rounds, Joshua by KO/TKO/DQ -235
Cacace Seeks to Defend IBO Junior Lightweight Crown
Anthony Cacace must have learned a lot since his first loss in July 2017. When he returned five months later, Cacace had strung together seven consecutive victories, mostly by decision. But something surprising happened during his fight last May.
Cacace’s power came back. He ended up knocking out Joe Cordina in the eighth round to retain the IBO super featherweight title and win the IBF super featherweight title. Cacace’s challenge now is to handle what Josh Warrington brings to the table.
Warrington’s most dangerous quality may be his desperation. He most recently challenged for the WBA featherweight title last October but lost in the seventh round via TKO. Warrington is 1-3-1 over his past five fights.
While three of those fights were for belts, Warrington’s performances raise the question of whether he deserved some of those opportunities. Warrington has seen most of the fights in his career go to a decision.
This one should follow suit.
Bets to consider: Over 10.5 rounds, Cacace by decision
Butasi Eager to Protect Perfect Record
Joshua Butasi and Willy Hutchinson are both in line for a good opportunity. The pair are set to fight for the vacant IBF interim light heavyweight title. Butasi has shown throughout his career that he can carry consistent power in his hands.
Butasi has knocked out 13 of his opponents and has improved his record to 18-0. Hutchinson has started to recoup his career after his first loss in March 2021. After losing to Lennox Clarke by fifth-round TKO, he has strung together five straight wins.
The world boxing latest news shows that Butasi and Hutchinson haven’t been shy about fighting different styles. While both have more knockouts than decisions, this will be a strong measuring stick for where both men stand.
Bets to consider: Under 10.5 rounds, Butasi by KO/TKO/DQ
Sheeraz Hopes to Grab a Title
Tyler Denny is the current European middleweight titleholder. But if the odds are any indicator of how things will play out on Saturday, it won’t be that way for long. Hamzah Sheeraz is eager to show the world what he is capable of.
Sheeraz is 20-0 in his career and has 16 knockouts. Over the past four years, he has been fighting for several regional belts. During his last fight, He retained his WBC silver middleweight title.
Denny is on an eight-fight unbeaten streak. However, Denny has shown during his career that he can be touched by his opponents. Denny is 19-2-3 and is a solid but unspectacular fighter.
People seem to have big plans for Sheeraz. He will not want to waste this opportunity to beat a respected veteran to make his stock more appealing to other top fighters.
Bets to consider: Sheeraz by KO/TKO/DQ, Under 6.5 rounds
Here are other fights on the card not mentioned above:
- Mark Chamberlain (-3000) vs. Josh Padley (+1000)
- Josh Kelly (-225) vs Ishmael Davies (+175)
