Wilder To Fight Shaw On BLK Prime

Deontay Wilder will box in April on BLK Prime against Stephan Shaw.

Wilder has not boxed since getting knocked out by Zhilei Zhang. That was his second consecutive loss, following a defeat to Joseph Parker before. Wilder dismissed any suggestions that he will retire. But under Malik Scott, Wilder only has one victory. That was a first-round KO against Robert Helenius in the first round. The Bronze Bomber recently disclosed an army injury.

He argued that it was sustained before the Parker fight. That could explain why his jab and right hand were missing in that fight. But there were also claims Wilder’s killer instinct had gone. He admitted his ayahuasca usage. Scott also said that Wilder’s hunger was not the same. Scott felt Wilder’s luxury lifestyle no longer meant he had to be as hungry. He entered boxing with the aim of earning money for his daughter, who has Spina Bifoda.

Scott On Wilder

“The last two guys that he fought are probably two of the toughest guys he’s fought in his career. Zhang is a southpaw, and is big and more imposing. Parker is an above-average fighter that Deontay took after a long layoff. After a long layoff, he’s fighting the best in the world/ What people have a problem with is the performance level. Him not going in there and performing at a certain level.

“We got to see what he wants to do. It’s up to him to see if he wants to have a good year in the division like I know he can. The ability is there. Obviously, the hunger isn’t the same as the first two years after he turned pro because he’s waking up with silk pajamas. He’s getting in that Rolls Royce, and he’s got everything that he came into the game for,” Scott said

Wilder’s Choice

Wilder could have faced Joe Joyce, Derek Chisora or Otto Wallin. Joyce is not in the best of from. He has three defeats from his previous four fights. Losses to Zhang on two occasions and Derek Chisora were accompanied by a win against Kash Ali. Meanwhile, Chisora will box Otto Wallin next. Chisora recently confirmed he would retire once he reaches 50 fights. He is currently at 48, with Wallin making it 49. The winner of that fight could have proven to be a credible opponent.

The decision to fight on BLK Prime against Shaw may help him, though. The platform is known for paying over the odds to get the big names. Terence Crawford allegedly got $10 million for fighting on the platform against David Avanesyan. While it was a defense of his WBO Welterweight Title, it was not a big fight. Devin Haney’s return has also been confirmed for March 25 on the platform. Shaw has a 20-2-0 record. While he may have 15 stoppage wins, they are not against big names. Wilder will present his most difficult bout. The Bronze Bomber is expected to win, putting the pressure on him to perform.
