Wallin Backs Fury To Beat Joshua
Otto Wallin has given his take on who wins between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Wallin has faced both, with contrasting performances in each fight. Wallin went the distance with Fury, pushing the Gypsy King all the way. Fury suffered a huge cut above his eye, as the fight should arguably have been stopped. The Gypsy King went the full 12 rounds, as he won a unanimous decision. Before the Usyk fight, Wallin was seen as the man who gave Fury his toughest fight.
Wallin also boxed Joshua last December. AJ had the benefit of having Ben Davidson in his corner. Davidson was the man in Fury’s corner when he faced Wallin. Unlike Fury’s performance, Joshua made Wallin quit on the stool after breaking his nose. Styles did make the fight, while there is an argument that Wallin may not have been the same fighter who pushed Fury. Based on what he had seen, Wallin still edged Fury.
Wallin Reacts
“I feel like Joshua is a very good fighter, very good power, very good counter puncher. I feel like he definitely has a shot with Fury. And you just never know what Tyson Fury shows up. I still have a hard time going against Tyson in that fight.
“But, the fights if you compare it my fight against Joshua was a lot tougher than the one I had against Fury. That doesn’t mean everything but I give Joshua more of a chance than I did before. But I still would probably pick Fury as the favourite,” Wallin said
Joshua Vs. Fury
However, Joshua and Fury have had contrasting fortunes of late. Fury suffered the first career defeat, coming unstuck against Oleksandr Usyk. It was the biggest fight of his career, as he had the chance to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Although there is a rematch, Fury cannot fight for undisputed after Usyk vacated the IBF belt.
Joshua will box Daniel Dubois, who became the IBF champion, on September 21. If Joshua and Fury win their next fights, they will face off for undisputed. Turki Alalshikh has indicated his desire to make that fight next year, with suggestions it may go ahead regardless of the results from their next fights. Joshua will be seen as the slight favorite if Fury loses to Usyk again. Eddie Hearn has said this is the fight to make in 2025.
“Joshua against Tyson Fury in early 2025 is the fight that we have a responsibility to deliver and we don’t walk away from our responsibilities. Yes, I think it’s all of our duty, those involved [to make AJ-Fury even if Fury is beaten again by Usyk.] We have to keep delivering the very best product.
“We need to do that fight. I think personally that Usyk beats Fury in the rematch. It’s easier to make if Fury beats Usyk, because then if Joshua has beaten Daniel Dubois you’ve got the unification fight because Joshua will hold the IBF belt. There is no bigger fight in the world still than Fury and AJ,” Hearn said
