Mike Tyson believes Gervonta Davis possesses the tools to hand Shakur Stevenson his first pro defeat.

Tyson labeled Stevenson a “master of the craft” but noted that one “force of nature” remains the ultimate threat to his undefeated streak: “Tank” Davis. Tyson’s comments come after Stevenson’s win against Teofimo Lopez on January 31, 2026. By winning a one-sided unanimous decision, Stevenson captured the WBO Junior Welterweight title and became a four-division world champion.

Stevenson’s ability to control elite fighters with nothing more than a lead hand and positioning makes him a tough man to beat. Despite Stevenson’s technical brilliance, Tyson argued that Davis represents a physical anomaly.

“He’s a great fighter. I don’t know if he’s as serious as he used to be but, when he was serious, he was a hell of a fighter that nobody came close [to beating]. “He’s the only one I gave a chance against Shakur. Tank is just a force of nature – you’ve just got to give him the credit. He’s the f**king man.”

Who Is Next?

And yet, “Tank’s” career is currently at a crossroads. Davis was stripped of his WBA Lightweight title. This was triggered by a combination of inactivity and an arrest warrant involving charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. The WBA designated Davis as its “Champion in Recess.” For the Stevenson fight to materialize, Davis would likely need to move up to 140 lbs. Reports indicate that Tank is in talks with Isaac Cruz for a rematch at 140, meaning a fight with Shakur could happen later down the line.

“I am told that [Gervonta Davis] is in advanced talks right now to fight a rematch against Pitbull Cruz that would be at 140, rather than 135 like the first fight, this summer. I expect it to happen,” Mike Coppinger
