Tim Tszyu Knocks Out Carlos Ocampo In The First Round

Defending interim WBO super-welterweight champion Tim Tszyu secured a first-round knockout victory over Carlos Ocampo.

Tszyu was in top form, dominating the fight from the start, which was a surprise given that he had some surgery for a dog bite in the run up to the fight.

He landed 14 combinations and delivered some huge right hands, followed by a left hook that put Ocampo on the floor twice.

The fight lasted only 72 seconds, as Tszyu was in no mood to hang around.

The win was all the more impressive since Ocampo had only been knocked out by none other than Errol Spence Jr. as the Australian had a lot to say post-fight.

“I copped a lot of different adversities, so [the Ocampo bout] was about getting the job done. I didn’t think it would be that early because this guy is a warrior. I am coming back with four belts,” Tszyu

Next Steps

This naturally raises the question of when Tsyzu will face Charlo. The latter has been out of the ring since his win over Brian Castano last year.

Tsyzu had been on course to fight Charlo in January in a chance to become undisputed. That didn’t occur, as the American broke his left hand as Tsyzu was forced to rethink his ideas.

He ended up facing Tony Harrison, as he stopped him in the ninth round and then beat Ocampo comprehensively, as the Australian was in prime form.

And by the looks of it, Tsyzu and his team are keen on fighting Charlo.

“There’s no doubt I’m going to America, that’s the land I want to conquer. I’m not satisfied with his interim belt – I want all four and I want the name Charlo on my resume. Let’s dance in October,” Tsyzu

“Conversations have already been happening leading up to this fight so it’s the next goal. All roads lead to Charlo. September 30 was the deadline set by the WBO, that works in with Team Tszyu, especially after how we finished [the Ocampo] fight.

“I don’t think there’s going to be much layoff time needed. We’ll just push for a date to be locked in and announced soon enough,” No Limit Boxing’s George Rose

“Your daddy ain’t in the ring, your daddy era is old. You keep up with that style, you don’t adapt to this new era, this new style, you’re going to end up having more problems anyway.

“Mohammed Ali was great in his era. This is a different era right now,” Charlo

Tszyu has now become the favorite to beat Charlo, according to Shawn Porter. And given that there is so much at stake in the fight, it cannot come soon enough.
