Sunny Edwards Vows To Make Jesse Rodriguez Look ‘Silly’

Sunny Edwards, the current IBF flyweight champion, has promised to put on a performance against Jesse Rodriguez.

The two boxers will face each other on December 16th, 2023, in what will be a unification bout as Rodriguez puts his WBO belt on the line.

This will be Edwards’ fifth time that he has defended his belt, as he looks to get a win overseas in what would be a major statement.

The Brit secured the belt initially having beaten Moruti Mthalane. And in his last fight, Sunny emerged victorious over Andres Campos. 

Meanwhile, Rodriguez grabbed the vacant WBO title after beating Cristian Gonzalez. Both fighters are currently undefeated, as Edwards has 20 wins, while Rodriguez’s record stands at 18 victories.

Therefore, something has to give come fight night. However, Sunny has promised to put on a show to expose the difference in levels between the pair.

“Bam’s definitely exciting, and he’s definitely got a lot of hype, traction behind his career, but I’m looking to put a big stop to that. I feel like he can’t come forward. “I’m going to have him falling in all night, and I think I’m going to make him look silly in his backyard. Well, the closest thing,” Edwards

Nevertheless, Edwards cannot afford to overlook his opponent. Rodriguez has gone the distance in his last two fights and won, suggesting that he is willing to do whatever it takes to get the victory.

Not only that, but since Edwards will be classed as the away fighter, the crowd may be against him. And yet, Edwards’ comments also suggested that he was not overlooking his opponent as he did praise him. 

“Well, it’s a, it’s a top pound-for-pound fighter. I genuinely believe me and ‘Bam’ are two of the brightest talents in World Boxing at the moment. I genuinely believe that. I think a lot of people that have seen our careers and trajectories are very similar. We’ve been career boxers our whole life. I think this is generally at our ages as elite as the elite can get and that it could be a special one to close out the year,” Edwards
