Mayra Bueno Silva has opened up on her recent positive test.

According to reports, Silva tested positive after her UFC Vegas 77 win over Holly Holm for a drug that was connected to her ADHD medication.

In the aftermath of the positive test, Silva made it clear in no uncertain terms that she was not intending to use any performance-enhancing drug.

While that may have been the case, those close to the sport dismissed that idea. Julia Pena was very vocal going so far as to label Silva a ‘cheater.’

Pena On Silva

“#CHEATara, living up to your nickname. Back to being a curtain jerker of an Apex card you go. You fought two 41yr olds this year and you had to cheat in order to get it done. Can’t pass a #drugtest? Keep my name out of your mouth ya dumb broad,” Pena

But now that the dust has settled somewhat, Silva wanted to give her own thoughts on the matter.

Silva Responds

“I’m very sad for this because, first thing, this amount showing in my test, I don’t take in the competition. This is sad for me. I stopped taking the medication the Monday of fight week. I’ve done this a lot of times, and then this time, I don’t know what happened. I stopped on the Monday. This medication, it’s not doping, but I can take this out of competition, and I always stop on the Monday. I don’t know what has happened,” Silva

Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. Silva has revealed that she had been using this prescription medication for her ADHD for sometime.

Not only that, but the UFC and the relevant authorities had been aware of this use. Therefore, there are question marks over whether or not some changes should be made to the rules in order to reflect her current predicament.

And yet, the authorities will have to consider carefully what they do next. The outcome could result in a floodgate of cases of other athletes who may use the same defense following a positive test.

Although that could be a legitimate reason for a positive test, a precedent needs to be set in order to prevent an exploitation of this potential loophole.

Ellis Warns O’Malley

In addition to this, Gervonta Davis’ trainer, Kenny Ellis, has warned Sean O’Malley over facing the boxer. In the aftermath of O’Malley’s win over Aljamain Sterling the latter called out Tank Davis much to the shock of everyone.

“I also wouldn’t mind knocking out Gervonta Davis, and I know people are gonna go, ‘Ahh, you want to be Conor (McGregor). I’m telling you, that fight is going to happen,” O’Malley stated

After all, he had just become the new bantamweight champion who had ended Sterling’s nine-fight-win streak. Therefore, facing Davis who is one of the most explosive fighters out there was a shock.

As such, Ellis has warned O’Malley of even entertaining the idea. This has been seen with previous fighters who have crossed over into the world of MMA.

Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz had proved that as both fighters came up short when they made their boxing debuts.

With that being said, this is what Ellis had to say.

“I also wouldn’t mind knocking out Gervonta Davis, and I know people are gonna go, ‘Ahh, you want to be Conor (McGregor). I’m telling you, that fight is going to happen.

“Tank would whoop his ass, in the first round. Any top lightweight would beat him. Tank, Shakur (Stevenson), (Devin) Haney, all them guys would beat him cause they’re boxers. All of them would knock him out. He’s not a boxer. He don’t have professional punches. He’s an MMA fighter. They don’t perfect punches like boxers,” Ellis said

However, the previous build ups in getting crossover fights have shown that if there is a demand for it, then it can happen.

McGregor’s bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. showed that as the fight broke numerous pay-per-view records. And there is no getting away from that.
