Schaub Says McGregor Must Change – ‘Get Your Act Together’

Brendan Schaub says Conor McGregor needs to make changes; otherwise, there is no hope for the UFC fighter.
McGregor was ordered to pay Nikita Hand roughly $258,440 after he was found liable for sexual assault. The lawsuit was about a 2018 incident in a Dublin hotel room. McGregor’s friend, James Lawrence, was included in the case but found not guilty. McGregor has been facing the brunt of this case, with many brands dropping him. The Hitman video game franchise and The Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey brand have cut ties with him. The Irish airports in Dublin and Cork have pulled his drinks from their establishments. Ruth Coppinger, an Irish politician, has also supported the idea of a public boycott of McGregor’s products.
McGregor’s Woes
“Obviously I feel people already are boycotting his products and there has been a massive commercial backlash for Conor McGregor. People shouldn’t support Conor McGregor, his products nor his premises. I am surprised though that retailers have pulled his products because normally something like this doesn’t affect a person. So the backlash Conor McGregor is getting is significant – retailers and sponsors are reacting and long may it continue,” Coppinger said
The Irishman still has two fights left on his UFC deal. But his future is uncertain. He has not been in the Octagon since his 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier. That defeat was his third out of his last four bouts. He broke his leg, something which he has not yet returned from. He pulled out of his UFC 303 fight against Michael Chandler with a broken toe. McGregor’s other announcement over a Dan Hooker fight in Saudi Arabia on February 1 has also not materialized. While McGregor did not need to fight financially, things could now change due to brands dropping him.
Schaub Reacts
His fight with Chandler was on course to break a UFC live gate record at the time of over $20 million, showing his mass appeal. However, the findings of the lawsuit could change that if fans distance themselves from the Irishman. McGregor is also 35, meaning his peak years may be well behind him. Since McGregor is keen to appeal the decision, there is a danger that the case will continue to drag on for an extended period. Schaub urged McGregor to make positive changes in his life.
“There’s been rumblings non-stop dude, for years and years and years. If you’re playing those dark arts, something’s going to stick. Something is going to pop up and rear its ugly head. If you’re living that life, like you’ve been living, eventually—I don’t care who you are—if you’re a bank robber, you might get away with it three, four times. Eventually, you’re going to get caught.
“And hopefully—hopefully—if this doesn’t do it, then it’s all over for Conor. If this doesn’t get him on the right path to be a good father and a good husband, nothing will. If going and standing trial for rape doesn’t force you to get your act together, there is no hope for Conor McGregor,” Schaub said
