Ryan Garcia Enrolls In VADA; Haney Rematch A Step Closer

Ryan Garcia has officially enrolled in VADA testing, ending speculation that he would no longer work with the organization.
Garcia has had a bone to pick with VADA after he tested positive for Ostarine in his last fight against Devin Haney. It was a major setback since it turned Garcia’s biggest win into a no-contest. To make matters worse, he was also given a year ban from boxing by the New York State Athletic Commission. The ban runs out very soon, as he will be allowed to box professionally in April. He is set to face Rolando Romero on May 2 in his first fight since the ban.
The news means that Garcia will have a bigger chance of getting a rematch with Haney. Haney’s team is on record saying that they will not consider any rematch until Ryan enters into VADA testing. Garcia has also said that he would not have a rematch until Haney’s camp drops their lawsuit against him. Haney sued Garcia for fraud unjust enrichment, and breach of contract following the failed tests. It is a turnaround from Garcia, who recently said he did not want to use VADA but would consider using any other testing organization.
Garcia On VADA
“It’s getting really strange why it’s always VADA. Can we get some other organizations to test. Cause you got Bill [Haney] pushing only VADA. He never says any other organizations, and it’s strange [that] he’s pushing a certain organization. Don’t you just want any kind of testing? All this sounds like the people pushing to use VADA are getting some type of cut money-wise to have people use VADA. Seems unethical. This is just my opinion,” Garcia stated
He was very critical of Victor Conte’s association with VADA. Conte had previously pleaded guilty for conspiracy to distribute steroids and money laundering. The pressure is on Garcia to back up his words. His team argued that the amount of Ostarine in his system was not enough to enhance his performance. They alleged Haney simply was outclassed. He failed to make any adjustments to avoid Garcia’s left hook. Haney’s team was adamant that if things had been on an even playing field, the result would have been different. Ryan is expected to beat Romero in his next fight, which would set up a possible rematch with Haney in October, moving forward.
Garcia Enrolls
“Ryan has always been a clean fighter. He was the victim of contaminated supplements. The level of contamination had zero benefit to him, as our experts have opined. Those are the facts. He had tested all of his career with clean results, and that will continue to be the case,” Guadalupe Valencia (Garcia’s manager)
“The California Commission has total confidence in the VADA Program and utilizes VADA services on a regular basis. The additional drug testing of Ryan Garcia in no way should discredit VADA. We are testing to provide additional information to clear his suspension,” Andy Foster (California commissioner)
