Paige VanZant Wins On Her Power Slap Debut - 'I Knew I Could Take A Slap'

Paige VanZant won on her Power Slap debut, beating Christine Wolmarans via a unanimous decision at Power Slap 8.

VanZant joined the organization which took many by surprise given that she had just signed a deal with Misfits. But prior to her Power Slap debut, VanZant made it clear that she was not here just to make up the numbers. VanZant stated that her ambition was to win a world title, with the focus being on Power Slap and boxing.

Pre-Fight Comments

“I think it’s exciting for me because it’s like, listen, I am a gangster. Whether people want to admit it or not, I am here to slap somebody. It doesn’t matter what organization, what combat sport, I’m here to take over and have some fun. It was a conversation that we had in the gym; everybody watches Power Slap. They’ve taken over. Everybody knows what it is.

“Everybody has seen the highlight videos, and a lot of people are like ‘no, I would never do that’, or they have mixed emotions about it all. For me, I’m like, yeah, I would do that, of course. I look back at my UFC career, my bare-knuckle boxing career, everything that I’ve done, you can’t take away how tough I am. This is like that ultimate test of toughness. You stand there, and you gotta be able to have the balls to get hit,” VanZant said

The ex-UFC fighter did not disappoint. She sent Wolmarans to the canvas with her second and third slaps. While Wolmarans managed to get up, she did not impose much damage on VanZant. In the end, the slapping contest went to the scorecards. The judges scored it 30-25 in favor of VanZant.

The news was a successful result, given VanZant’s recent form. She drew with Elle Brooke in her Misfits boxing debut. Before that, she fought in the UFC, losing to Amanda Ribas in her last UFC bout. VanZant would then leave the UFC after losing four UFC fights in a row. She would then sign a deal with BKFC. Two fights followed, which ended in defeat by Britain Hart and Rachael Ostovich. Following her current, she is here to stay.

“Honestly, it was absolutely incredible. Of course I wanted to knock her out with the first slap, but I’m so happy that it went the way that it did. I knew I could take a punch, I knew I could take a slap. That was really fun. This is too much fun to walk away from,” VanZant said
