Paige VanZant Slams Critics Over Power Slap Decision

Paige VanZant has slammed critics over her decision to join Power Slap.

VanZant has had a varied career when it comes to the combat sports industry. She made a name for herself in the UFC from 2014-2020. But the tail end of her career ended badly, losing four UFC fights on the spin. After her UFC departure, she made her way to BKFC. That was also an unsuccessful venture. She lost both her bouts when she faced Rachel Ostovich and Britain Hart. But during this period, VanZant also joined Only Fans. The fighter admitted that she had earned more money on the platform than her UFC career.

VanZant then switched to boxing after signing a deal with Misfits. She boxed Elle Brooke in a tough bout. Despite hitting the canvas, VanZant managed to get up from the canvas to secure a draw. VanZant indicated her desire to have a rematch immediately, but she shocked the world by signing up to Power Slap instead. She will face Christine Wolmarans from the Fontainebleau Hotel and Casino on June 28. She was looking forward to making a statement.

VanZant Reacts

“I got called if I would do Power Slap. I said absolutely, and that was it. Signed the contract, and here I am to do Power Slap. I think it’s exciting for me because it’s like, listen, I am a gangster. Whether people want to admit it or not, I am here to slap somebody.

“It doesn’t matter what organization, what combat sport, I’m here to take over and have some fun. I look back at my UFC career, my bare-knuckle boxing career, everything that I’ve done, you can’t take away how tough I am, and this is like that ultimate test of toughness. Stand there, and you’ve got to be able to have the balls to be able to get hit,” VanZant stated

VanZant has indicated that she plans to win a world title. She never managed to achieve this in the UFC. The fighter was never in contention for a title. The same can be said for her career in boxing and BKFC. However, a large part of VanZant’s career is her appeal. She may divide the combat sport’s fanbase, but she has a following that has kept her name relevant.

With so many combat sports to choose from, VanZant has now chosen to purse boxing and Power Slap. The two require a different skill set, with many feeling that Power Slap could incur more damage on VanZant. But for someone who has fought in all realms, she is not worried about what is coming her way.

“I think for me the narrative right now perfectly falls in line with continuing to do Power Slap alongside doing my boxing. I still intend to box again at the end of the year. I’m waiting for the date on that. This fits in line with that.

“It’s preparation, it’s preparing to cause damage and try not to take damage, but inevitably in Power Slap you’re going to get hit. So who knows? I am a woman who does whatever the f*ck I want, and right now I want to do Power Slap,” VanZant added
