Paige VanZant Aims For Power Slap World Title

Paige VanZant has indicated her desire to become a world champion in Power Slap.

VanZant joined the organization as she takes on Christine Wolmarans from the Fontainebleau Hotel and Casino has on June 28. It was not a surprise, given VanZant’s prior history in combat sports. She has competed in various combat sports forms. She took part in the UFC from 2014-20.

The tail end of her career ended badly, as she lost three out of her last four fights. Her final UFC bout came against Amanda Ribas in her last fight at UFC 251, as she would then sign a deal with BKFC. Her career in BKFC did not start well, as she suffered losses to Rachel Ostovich and Britain Hart. While VanZant has plans to continue fighting in BKFC, Power Slap is her current focus.

“When I first saw Power Slap, I thought holy…that’s insane. When I see stuff that is crazy and exciting, it instantly makes me want to do it. I’m definitely an adrenaline junkie and I have been since a young age, I did grow up dancing and I was a cheerleader, but I like to have the thrills in life. I love to compete and this is violent and this is literally the epitome of being a dog. I need to take a belt home, that is the goal. I’m not going to go anywhere until I get the belt,” VanZant stated

VanZant Reacts

Those comments suggest that VanZant will take a step back from her boxing career. She did face Elle Brooke on her boxing debut when she signed with Misfits. Despite getting dropped in the fight, she recovered and got a draw. The result was controversial, with some feeling Brooke had done enough to win. After the result, VanZant indicated her desire to have an immediate rematch. Brooke also said the same, setting up the narrative for another encounter.

VanZant’s Boxing Career

“Obviously we didn’t get the results we predicted [on Saturday]. I really thought that we did enough at the end. My whole team thought we did enough, I think a lot of people did. The judging, a little bit nuts, but it looks like it sets up a perfect rematch. I just have to go on her turf and take her belt there. So I’ll see all of you guys in London,” VanZant said

“Just want the rematch. I don’t really care about her as a person [laughs]. She’s a nice; I respect her as a fighter but she’s not my mate. I don’t know, yeah. It is what it is,” Brooke stated

While a boxing rematch seems unlikely, it is important to note the following. VanZant has spoken previously about earning more than her whole UFC career through her Only Fans. VanZant joined the platform after leaving the UFC, indicating that money is not the primary factor. While a Misfits show may earn her a bigger purse, VanZant’s comments suggest she is after legacy.
