O’Malley Wants Still Wants The Gervonta Davis Fight

Sean O’Malley, the current UFC bantamweight champion, has revealed his desire to fight Gervonta Davis once again.

Following his win over Aljamain Sterling in which he stopped the MMA fighter in the second round, the talk turned immediately towards a fight with Tank Davis.

This was a shock to say the least, especially since Sterling had been set on getting a rematch. In response to this, one of Davis’ trainers Kenny Ellis warned Sean against taking the fight, given that it would not end well.

After all, several MMA stars have crossed over into the boxing ring to show that they have come out second best. Both Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz had shown that. And yet, O’Malley was not fazed by Ellis’ words.

O’Malley’s Intentions

“I wouldn’t mind knocking out Gervonta Davis, I’m telling you that fight is going to happen…I would love to go out there and box him…I don’t know if he’s a big enough star for the UFC to let that happen, but it’ll happen,” O’Malley

“Tank gonna whoop his ass, in the first round. Any tiny lightweight would beat him, Tank, Shakur, Haney, all those guys would beat him cause they’re boxers. All of them would knock him out. You better leave those boxers alone before you get knocked out,” Ellis

O’Malley’s Comments

Despite that warning, O’Malley has continued with his desire to make it happen. The UFC fighter explained how he is trying to draw parallels between this potential fight and the McGregor-Mayweather clash in 2017. And O’Malley is hoping that by building up the fight, he can secure a lucrative bout later down the line.

“We’re both undefeated boxers. It just make sense. That’s what you do when you’re both undefeated boxers, you go out there and you see who’s the best….’m not as big as Conor right now, he’s not as big as Floyd. So, I’m just planting the seed, letting it grow,” O’Malley

O’Malley’s comments show that the focus is on securing a big payday. And in a sport where a fighter’s life can change for the worse, Sean’s ambitions must be lauded.
