Yoel Romero gets new opponent as Lombard withdraws from Gamebred
Hector Lombard has withdrawn from his scheduled bareknuckle main event against Yoel Romero at Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 10 on Friday in Miami, with Alex Nicholson stepping in to face the Cuban on short notice.
Lombard, who went 3-1 in BKFC before moving to Jorge Masvidal’s promotion, cited insufficient preparation time for the pullout. “I didn’t have enough time,” Lombard said on Instagram, per MMA Mania. “Maybe a week and a half of training — I most respect the game. For many years I haven’t respected the game, but I gotta respect the game from now on. I need the proper training and proper time…I must be prepared.” The former UFC fighter is coming off a brutal 19-second knockout loss to James Cannon at DBX 3 in his most recent outing.
Nicholson-Romero matchup keeps card intact
Romero remains in the headliner and will now face Nicholson in a heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight bout at Unrivaled Arena. The 48-year-old Romero (16-7) has competed across multiple combat sports disciplines in the past two years, notching wins in Dirty Boxing and BKFC. He most recently dropped a decision to Vagab Vagabov at IBA Bare Knuckle 4 in Russia in March, according to Sherdog. His last MMA bout was a decision win over Thiago Santos at PFL vs. Bellator in February 2024.
Nicholson (16-11) carries a 1-2 record in Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA after knocking out Prince McLean in his debut but dropping fights to Chase Sherman and Frank Tate. The 35-year-old UFC and PFL veteran last won in September 2024, stopping former UFC fighter Zac Pauga.
Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 10 streams free on YouTube with prelims at 7 p.m. ET and the main card at 9 p.m. ET.
