Dustin Poirier arrested for public drunkenness in Georgia
Retired UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier was arrested Sunday evening in Georgia on a public drunkenness charge, TMZ first reported.
Poirier, 37, was booked and released after 10 p.m. ET the same night, according to MMA Fighting. He appeared in court Monday morning. Authorities have not disclosed details of the incident or where in Georgia the arrest occurred.
Poirier retired after Holloway trilogy loss
The former interim champion hung up his gloves in July 2025 following a unanimous decision loss to Max Holloway in their trilogy bout for the symbolic BMF belt in New Orleans. Poirier signaled his retirement in the cage immediately after the fight.
Over 41 professional bouts, Poirier compiled a 30-10 record with one no contest. He twice challenged for the undisputed lightweight title and defeated Conor McGregor twice, Max Holloway twice, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Anthony Pettis across stints at featherweight and lightweight.
Public drunkenness in Georgia carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both. Poirier has said publicly he misses competition but has made no indication he plans to return to fighting.
