Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyaev vows faster finish after 8-second KO
Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyaev plans to break his own speed record next time out.
The unbeaten heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight dropped Julius Walker with a right hand and finished him in eight seconds at UFC Baku on Saturday, earning a $100,000 performance bonus for one of the fastest knockouts in promotional history. Sherdog reports that Yakhyaev, now 10-0 with nine finishes, told the UFC in a post-fight interview he expects an even shorter night of work in his next appearance.
Turkish prospect eyes top-ten matchup
"Next time fight will be more short," Yakhyaev said. "Be ready guys. I think I'm ready for Top 10, Top 5, doesn't matter. I will sit with my coach, my team, we'll talk about that and let the UFC know."
The 25-year-old Turkish fighter has stopped all three of his UFC opponents in the first round since debuting with the promotion last year. Eight of his ten career wins have come before the opening frame ended.
Yakhyaev entered Saturday's bout as the heaviest favourite on the card and validated the odds in less time than most fighters take to feel out range. His camp is expected to push for a ranked opponent when he returns later this year.
