Wilder Vs. Ruiz Canceled By The WBC
The WBC has canceled the order for the interim heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr.
The WBC had ordered the fight over a year ago, as the winner would have had the chance to face Tyson Fury for the WBC belt. Although that may have been the case, the fighters had failed to agree terms.
Wilder’s team offered Ruiz a 70-30 split to reflect the fact that the ‘Bronze Bomber’ was the A-side.
Meanwhile, Ruiz’s team countered the offer in an attempt to get a 50-50 split. However, those talks proved unfruitful, as the duo could not get the fight over the line. And now the WBC has responded by moving the request for the fight.
WBC On Wilder-Ruiz
"The WBC Board of Governors has ruled to cancel the order which was issued during the last annual convention calling for a final elimination bout between Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr. to determine the mandatory challenger of the division,” per WBC. “The WBC will evaluate the current situation in the division in order to review the viable options and, if necessary, issue a new ruling during the WBC annual convention to be held in Uzbekistan in November," WBC said
As a result, there are suggestions that the WBC interim title could be on the line if Anthony Joshua does end up facing Wilder.
The two boxers are reportedly in negotiations for a super fight in Saudi Arabia. And given that both fighters have a strong pulling power, the chances of the fight getting made are greater.
However, based on that, a Wilder win over Joshua would result in a fourth fight between Fury and the ‘Bronze Bomber.’
Although the trilogy did give fans great value for money, the fact of the matter is that the bouts ultimately were in favor of Fury, who had Wilder’s number.
But a Joshua win here would give the boxing community the mega domestic fight they were hoping for. Time will tell how it all plays out.
