What Are Ngannou's Chances Of Knocking Out Fury?

UFC welterweight star Matt Brown has given his take on whether Francis Ngannou can beat Tyson Fury

The two will square off on October 28th, 2023, in what will be a 10-round boxing bout in Saudi Arabia.

Fury is the heavy favorite given that Ngannou will be making his boxing debut. While that may be the case, both are known for their striking ability, albeit in two different sports.

But any chance of Ngannou causing an upset has been downplayed, as Brown questioned whether he could knockout Fury.

"This whole consensus that these guys have chances in there, and it’s not like he doesn’t have any chance at all. We know he definitely hits hard.

"[Deontay] Wilder dropped Fury so it’s not like he doesn’t have any chance at all, but come on. You are literally doing a different sport.

"The one chance that we do grant him is that he’s going to land that big punch. That big punch has to be the one now. He’s got to have almost a superhuman amount of power," Brown

Ngannou’s Chances

On closer inspection, Ngannou’s chances are very slim. Although Wilder did connect with Fury, the hardest heavyweight in the division could not stop the ‘Gypsy King.’

And in the two rematches, Fury went on to stop Wilder in dramatic fashion. In contrast, previous MMA stars have shown that it is a different world when they crossover into boxing.

Conor McGregor’s fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2017 showed that. For all of McGregor’s striking prowess, when it came to boxing, he made little inroads.

The skill levels, coupled with the absence of four-ounce gloves, put all the advantage in the hands of Mayweather. And there is a feeling that the same could happen when Fury takes on Ngannou.

Nevertheless, there is always a small chance that Ngannou pulls of the upset. After all, there is a puncher’s chance.

"Maybe he goes in there and proves us all wrong, but the likelihood of that is so slim," Brown
