Vosgrone Admits He Has No Idea What Makes Him A Star

Dutch heavyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">light heavyweight Frederic Vosgrone entered the Oktagon cage at 3-0 in April 2025 and grabbed his opponent's leg like it was the only thing keeping him alive. The sequence went viral. His Instagram jumped from 4,000 followers to hundreds of thousands in weeks. Now he faces veteran Karlos Vemola at Oktagon 94 in Frankfurt on Sept. 26 with 665,000 followers and no clue what happened.

"I don't even know" what makes him a star in MMA, Vosgrone told MMA Fighting. He understands the support in Germany, where good fighters are scarce, but Brazilian fans recognizing him on social media baffles him. "I guess the social media algorithms love me," he said.

Life After Going Viral

Vosgrone choked out Jorick Montagnac with an arm-triangle in his promotional debut, then stopped Fabio Moraes months later to move to 5-0. Between fights he posed for pictures with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. "Especially the first couple of months was kind of living in some alternative reality," he said. "Sometimes I'm like, 'what the heck?' Crazy."

The attention forced him to turn down podcast and appearance requests to protect his training schedule. "It was always pretty difficult doing jiu-jitsu and teaching and fighting MMA on smaller shows," Vosgrone said, per MMA Fighting. "Now it makes it easier to focus on fighting. But also obviously with a lot more pressure, a lot more people's eyes on me."

Vosgrone said he stays confident despite knowing one punch could turn him into a meme because he achieved a lot in jiu-jitsu before switching to MMA. His ultimate goal remains the UFC. For now, he said, he cannot wait to feel the energy from German fans again when he walks out at Oktagon 94.
