VICE TV Releases Baroni Documentary Episode

VICE TV released the second episode of Dark Side of the Cage Season 2 this week, focusing on former UFC fighter Phil Baroni's career and the aggravated femicide charge he faces in Mexico.

The 44-minute documentary, titled "Phil Baroni: Fall of the New York Badass," is now streaming for free online, MMA Mania reports. The episode traces Baroni's path from his 2001 UFC debut through his global fighting career before examining the January 2023 arrest that followed his girlfriend's death in a San Pancho hotel room.

From Knockout Artist To Murder Charge

Baroni built a fan base in the early 2000s through an aggressive fighting style and his bodybuilding physique. His 18-second knockout of former UFC middleweight champion Dave Menne stands as one of the fastest finishes of that era. He later competed for PRIDE FC, Strikeforce, EliteXC, Bellator and ONE Championship, facing Frank Shamrock, Nick Diaz, Evan Tanner and others across 35 professional fights.

Mexican authorities charged Baroni with aggravated femicide after the January 2023 incident. He remains jailed in Nayarit while the case proceeds. No conviction has been entered and the allegations are pending resolution.

The documentary features interviews with friends, family and figures from Baroni's fighting career attempting to reconcile the charismatic fighter with the serious charge he now faces. Dark Side of the Cage Season 2 airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on VICE TV, with upcoming episodes covering Don Frye, Chael Sonnen, Tito Ortiz, Mark Coleman and the McGregor-Nurmagomedov rivalry.
