Usyk's Manager Rejects Fury's Backup Plan Offer

Oleksandr Usyk's manager has rejected Tyson Fury's social media callout for a third fight, telling Sky Sports News that the Ukrainian heavyweight is nobody's fallback option.

Fury posted an Instagram video Monday saying he wanted to face Usyk again after talks for a November clash with Anthony Joshua hit a wall over venue selection. Both fighters signed individual contracts for the bout, but Fury claims Joshua is dodging him while promoter Eddie Hearn insists London should host the event.

Usyk Camp Dismisses Fury's Overture

Sergey Lapin, Usyk's manager, told Sky Sports News that genuine fight interest requires more than press statements. "Usyk is not Tyson's backup plan," Lapin said. "If Fury needs an opponent, he should visit the Ready to Fight platform. They can help him find a worthy opponent there."

Lapin added that Usyk remains open to major challenges but expects concrete offers rather than public callouts. The 39-year-old Ukrainian vacated three heavyweight belts in June while confirming he has not retired, and recent reports have linked him to a potential matchup with Deontay Wilder.

Usyk holds a perfect 25-0 record and beat Fury by decision in both 2024 meetings to become undisputed champion. He also defeated Joshua twice in 2021 and 2022, though the British heavyweight has since brought Usyk into his training team. Fury and Joshua remain signed for a November date if they can settle on a location, with New York City emerging as one possibility alongside Hearn's preferred London venue.
