Medic Confirms Edwards Target After Belgrade KO
Uros Medic still wants Leon Edwards after his knockout win at UFC Belgrade.
The Serbian welterweight stopped Daniel Rodriguez in 30 seconds Saturday night, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and earning praise from Dana White. Medic has now finished four straight opponents in the first round, putting him in position to call his next shot.
Why Medic Targets Edwards Despite Losing Streak
Edwards sits in the welterweight top 10 despite a three-fight skid, which is precisely why Medic named him again after previously calling out the former champion following his win over Geoff Neal. "Leon Edwards [is who I want] if he makes himself available," Medic said at the post-fight press conference, per MMA Fighting. "I'm not going to bully him anymore. If he doesn't want to fight, we'll fight someone else. It's not a big deal."
The ranking matters more than the momentum. Medic explained that Edwards sits where he needs to be to close the gap on a title shot. "He is ranked where I want to be ranked," Medic told reporters. "Because that puts me closer to where I want to be and that is with the belt around my waist."
When asked about potential superstar status after the reception he received in Belgrade, Medic deflected. "I mean you tell me," he said. "I'm just a fighter. I'm just a guy. I follow my dreams." He acknowledged the knockout was rewarding but said the goal remains bigger than one night. Medic also mentioned Carlos Prates as a possible opponent but noted the Brazilian is too far behind in the rankings to make sense right now.
The UFC returns to action later this month with a card headlined by a lightweight bout.
