Three Fighters Miss Weight At Disastrous UFC Shanghai Weigh-Ins

Three fighters missed weight at Friday's UFC Shanghai weigh-ins, creating an embarrassing morning for the promotion in its return to China.

Flyweight Andre Lima came in at 127 pounds for his prelim headliner against Namsrai Batbayar, one pound over the 126-pound limit, MMA Mania reported. Lima, who teased a bantamweight move after his upset loss to Kevin Borjas in June, stayed at flyweight but failed to make the contracted weight. Batbayar hit 126 on the mark and the bout is expected to proceed.

Strawweight Bout Sees Both Fighters Overweight

The other trouble spot came in a strawweight matchup where both Jingnan Xiong and Julia Polastri missed the 115-pound limit. Xiong weighed 117 pounds while Polastri came in at 118.5 pounds, per Sherdog. That fight will also move forward on the early prelims portion of the card.

Because China lacks government-sanctioned combat sports regulators like those in the United States, UFC is acting as its own commission for the event. Sherdog reported that Lima will be fined 20 percent of his purse for the miss.

The main event between bantamweight contenders Umar Nurmagomedov and Yadong Song had no issues, with both fighters hitting their marks at 135.5 and 136 pounds respectively. UFC Shanghai streams live on Paramount Plus on Saturday, with prelims starting at 3 a.m. ET and the main card at 6 a.m. ET.
