UFC mislabels Shakur Stevenson as NBA's Jalen Williams at 329
The UFC broadcast team mistakenly identified newly signed boxer Shakur Stevenson as Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams during Saturday's UFC 329 telecast, drawing a sharp reaction from promotion president Dana White.
Stevenson, who recently inked a deal with Zuffa Boxing, was shown cageside when the production truck applied a chyron labeling him as the NBA player. Sherdog first reported that White voiced his displeasure with the error, which quickly circulated on social media.
Stevenson and Williams respond to broadcast error
The undefeated former junior lightweight champion posted on X in response to a clip of the gaffe. "Yea Dana," Stevenson wrote, adding a fire emoji and the hashtag "FireTheyAss." Williams, who plays for Oklahoma City, has not commented publicly.
White's frustration likely stems from the high-profile nature of Stevenson's Zuffa signing, which the promotion announced earlier this year as part of its boxing expansion. The broadcast mistake undercut what was meant to showcase one of the sport's top talents attending a UFC event.
No timeline has been announced for Stevenson's promotional debut under the Zuffa banner.
