UFC Freedom 250 Fight Week Brings Youth Fitness Clinics to D.C.
UFC brought a pair of youth fitness activations to Washington, D.C., during UFC Freedom 250 fight week, with Ryan Hall leading a jiu-jitsu clinic and Randy Brown coaching boxing fundamentals at separate venues across the region.
Hall worked with more than 25 children ages 7 to 14 at Fifty/50 Martial Arts Academy on June 9, walking participants through wrestling takedowns and body control techniques, according to UFC.com. Total Wireless handed out co-branded gear and surprised attendees with passes to the Fan Fest. Seven students from the session later escorted fighters during the event's press conference.
Brown Coaches Boxing Session, Academy Receives $20,000
The following day, welterweight Randy Brown spent an afternoon at Midtown Youth Academy teaching boxing basics to more than 20 local youth. The academy, which has operated in the D.C. area since 1977, received new gloves and training equipment through a partnership between UFC, Total Wireless, and Good Sports. Good Greek Moving & Storage provided trucks to haul and set up the gear.
"Partnering with UFC was a life-changing experience for our youth," said Khalia Jackson, executive director of Midtown Youth Academy. "From receiving new equipment to having Randy serve as a guest coach and mentor for our students, this partnership will have a lasting impact on our community."
Students walked away with Zuffa Boxing shirts and hats, Project Rock sneakers, and OPRO mouthpieces. Seven participants joined the fighter escort crew at the Lincoln Memorial press conference. UFC and Total Wireless closed the activation with a $20,000 donation to the academy.
UFC Freedom 250 took place June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House.
