UFC 250: Freedom Attack — Suspected Ringleader In Custody
The suspected ringleader of a planned drone attack on the White House during UFC Freedom 250 will remain in federal custody following Monday's hearing.
Abraham Alvarez, 31, is accused of coordinating a strike targeting high-ranking government officials — including President Donald Trump — during the June 14 event on the South Lawn. According to prosecutors, Alvarez directed contributing members of the group through a Signal chat and was found in possession of multiple firearms, a military-grade drone, and a flamethrower.
FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that officials were aware of the planned attack by June 10. The event proceeded as scheduled, with Justin Gaethje stopping Ilia Topuria in the main event in front of tens of thousands of spectators on the South Lawn and an audience of 17 million viewers on Paramount+.
The case adds a layer of retrospective gravity to an event that was already the most politically visible in UFC history. The card took place on the White House grounds as part of the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations.
The FBI's combat training collaboration with UFC fighters during fight week, which generated its own media coverage at the time, takes on a different context given what was being planned four days before the event. Alvarez remains in federal custody pending further proceedings.
