Thorslund Promoter Rejects Hennessy Offer As Incomplete

Most Valuable Promotions has rejected an approach from Boxxer for undisputed bantamweight champion Dina Thorslund to face Francesca Hennessy, calling the proposal incomplete.

Boxxer said it had put forward close to $250,000 for the Danish fighter to meet Hennessy in the UK in November or December, per BBC Sport. But MVP head of matchmaking Mike Leanardi told the outlet the offer arrived without a broadcaster, date, or venue attached. "We would never agree to a fight involving an A-side undisputed champion on what is effectively a shopping agreement," Leanardi said. "It's not a real offer."

Boxxer Confident Deal Can Be Reached

Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom said earlier Wednesday that the two sides were in talks and that the proposal represented the highest payday of Thorslund's career. Hennessy, who turns 22 in October, is the WBC's top challenger and would become the youngest undisputed champion in four-belt history if she beats Thorslund. Boxxer remains confident the fight can be made for later this year in the UK.

Thorslund's manager Lee Eaton accused Boxxer of using the champion's name for publicity. MVP also noted that Boxxer had separately offered Hennessy a bout with Ebanie Bridges, who MVP promotes, adding that the situation made little sense.

Thorslund claimed all four major titles by beating Cherneka Johnson last August, a year after relinquishing her WBC and WBO straps when she became pregnant. Hennessy stopped Aurora de Persio in May for her second knockout win in nine pro fights.
