Romero Rejects Lopez Body Work After Title Loss
Rolly Romero says Teofimo Lopez landed almost nothing in their welterweight title fight Saturday night.
Romero lost his WBA strap by majority decision at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but told reporters afterward that Lopez failed to connect cleanly and that he deserved a rematch. Bad Left Hook was ringside for the post-fight press conference.
Romero Dismisses Lopez Body Attack
When asked about the visible redness on his torso from Lopez's body punches, Romero lifted his shirt to show the marks had faded. "He didn't land a single shot," he said, per Bad Left Hook. "You guys could clearly see he didn't land a single shot."
Romero pointed to his unmarked face as proof he won. "Look at my face. I got hit with, what, two clean shots the whole fight," he told the media. "He's never hurt me at any given moment. He got hurt multiple times throughout the fight."
The former champion also suggested politics played a role in the scoring. "When somebody else does this, it's a masterclass," he said. "When I do it, it's self explanatory, right? It's all political."
Romero added that some of the rounds where he hurt Lopez should have been scored 10-8 and that one knockdown was not called. Lopez defends the title next in early 2027.
