Strickland Reveals High-Speed Crash Injuries

UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland suffered head and shoulder injuries in a high-speed rollover crash, he revealed on Instagram last night.

Strickland said a friend was driving when the vehicle flipped multiple times at around 60 mph, per BJ Penn. The former champion posted footage showing visible injuries to his head and shoulder, explaining he was not wearing a helmet during the incident.

"Guys I'm in a real bad place, oh [expletive]," Strickland said in the video, according to the report. "I let my buddy drive, he rolled us going like 60. We rolled like six times. That's [head injury] from my head smacking the ground, going 60. I didn't have a helmet on, I'm an idiot." He described the shoulder damage as coming from repeated impacts with concrete or dirt as the vehicle tumbled.

In a follow-up post, Strickland said his friend Chris briefly lost consciousness and was taken to hospital but was expected to recover. The champion said he believed he was okay despite the visible injuries.

Strickland is scheduled to face Nassourdine Imavov in an upcoming title defense, though the UFC has not commented on whether the crash will affect those plans.
