Fisher On Nearing Big-Time Heavyweight Fights

British heavyweight Johnny Fisher believes he is closing in on the marquee fights he has long targeted.

Fisher, who faces Michael Pirotton at the Copper Box Arena this weekend, told Sky Sports that despite lacking world-level credentials, his fan base and aggressive style make him a viable option for a big name. He framed his upcoming bout in stark terms: there is risk, but also proximity to the top. "You're still only one or two fights away from being the big time," he said, per Bad Left Hook.

Fisher Names Wilder As Dream Opponent

One name floated to Fisher was former WBC champion Deontay Wilder. Fisher confirmed that would be exactly the kind of fight he wants, though he acknowledged no serious talks have taken place. For now, his focus is on Saturday and on sticking to what has gotten him this far.

Fisher said he has tried in the past to adapt his style away from his natural aggression, but that it never worked. "You can't change what you are, you can't try and be something you're not," he told Sky Sports. "You've got to be who you are in the boxing ring as well. I think that's what'll do."
