Staines Stops Abushaar With First-Round Slam At DWCS

George Staines handed Loai Abushaar his second career loss with a first-round slam finish at the UFC Contender Series in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.

Staines, who entered the lightweight main event undefeated at 8-0, stopped Abushaar just 61 seconds into the opening round with a slam TKO, according to MMA Fighting. Abushaar had won four straight fights by finish heading into the bout and carried a 7-1 record.

Diop Earns Second-Round Stoppage In Co-Main Event

Adama Diop extended his winning streak to six with a second-round TKO of previously unbeaten heavyweight Zaurbek Sabanov. Diop, who had knocked out four of his previous five opponents, finished Sabanov with punches at 2:13 of the second frame.

Ian Escuza needed only 32 seconds to stop Luca Borando with knees in the first round, while Aieza Bertolso submitted Camila Reynoso via inverted D'Arce choke at 3:02 of round one.

The planned opening bout between Ilias Bulaid and Erick Visconde was postponed to Week 10 after Bulaid fell ill Tuesday, reducing the card to four fights. Dana White has handed out 34 contracts through 10 weeks of this season's Contender Series.
