Song's 2026 Run Sets Up Title Shot
Video showed Song accepting the wrestling match with one condition: he kept his hands behind his back the entire time. The Canadian exchange student shot repeatedly but could not take the Chinese fighter down.
Song has compiled a 2-1 record in 2026 with back-to-back finishes. He dropped a competitive decision to Sean O'Malley at UFC 324 in January before returning to China to submit former two-time flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo. The Nurmagomedov knockout was his second straight finish over a ranked opponent.

The bantamweight title picture clears up when champion Petr Yan meets Merab Dvalishvili in their trilogy at UFC 333 in October. A Dvalishvili win could give Song a fresh matchup, though Yan beat Song by unanimous decision at UFC 299 in March 2024. Another victory may be required if Yan retains.
