Sam Neill, 'Jurassic Park' Star, Remembered by MMA Community
Actor Sam Neill, who became a global icon playing paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant in Steven Spielberg's 'Jurassic Park', has died, prompting reflection across the combat sports community.
MMA Mania writer Tim Edwards paid tribute to Neill in a Sunday post, calling the 1993 dinosaur blockbuster "probably the first movie I got excited for." Edwards recalled the marketing blitz that preceded the film's release — the trailers, the McDonald's promotional toys, the behind-the-scenes footage — and said the finished product lived up to the hype. "I watched it recently and it holds up so well," he wrote.
Neill's Career Beyond Jurassic Park
Neill's filmography extended far beyond the 'Jurassic Park' franchise, though that role remained his most recognizable. Edwards noted Neill starred in several other memorable projects, without specifying which were his personal favorites.
The New Zealand-born actor appeared in three 'Jurassic' films over nearly three decades, reprising the Grant character most recently in 2022's 'Jurassic World Dominion' alongside original castmates Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. His work spanned genres from horror to drama, earning him a place among the most versatile character actors of his generation.
No cause of death or funeral arrangements have been announced at press time.
