Quillan Salkilld has climbed the UFC lightweight ladder without a nickname, and the Australian recently explained his reasoning ahead of his first main event.

Salkilld told reporters that he prefers to let a moniker emerge organically rather than manufacture one himself. "I think my name is hard enough to pronounce," he said, per Sherdog. "I have always wanted not to give myself a nickname and have one, just like, you know, bestowed upon me."

Coaches' Suggestions Didn't Make The Cut

The 5-0 UFC fighter said his coaching staff floated a few options, but none stuck. He described the proposals as jokes rather than serious contenders and decided to sideline them entirely. "They were just all p*ss takes and jokes," Salkilld added. "I will just stick to my real name."

Salkilld faces his toughest test when he meets Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Vegas 120 on Saturday at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. The Australian has finished four opponents in the first round since earning his contract on Dana White's Contender Series.
