Ryan Spann banks $100K bonus for heavyweight knockout at UFC Vegas 116
Ryan Spann pocketed a $100,000 performance bonus for his second-round knockout of Marcus Almeida at UFC Vegas 116 on Saturday night at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
Spann dropped the grappling-heavy Almeida with a two-punch combination at 2:10 of the second round, per Sherdog. The finish marked his second straight stoppage since moving up from 205 pounds and improved his heavyweight record to 2-1.
Grant-Martinetti slugfest earns fight bonus
Jackson McVey collected the other $100,000 performance award after submitting Sedriques Dumas with a brabo choke 2:14 into the opening frame, as MMA Mania reported. McVey set up the grappling sequence by landing heavy punches on the feet before securing top position.
Davey Grant and Adrian Luna Martinetti split fight-of-the-night honors for their three-round war at bantamweight. The 40-year-old Grant outlanded Martinetti across 15 minutes — the pair combined for 261 significant strikes — to take a unanimous decision.
Aljamain Sterling dominated Youssef Zalal in the main event to stake his claim for a featherweight title shot. Every other fighter who earned a finish on the card received $25,000, though only Spann and McVey stopped their opponents on the night.
