Ryan Garcia has spoken out against US President Donald Trump’s immigration policy amid the discontent with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Garcia is a supporter of Trump, having met him following his initial victory over Devin Haney before it became a no-contest after his failed VADA tests. Garcia is even on record saying that he had voted for Trump. There is currently discontent with the immigration policy, with an increasing number of migrant arrests and deportations. There are suggestions that this has taken place amongst the Hispanic community in an attempt to secure the US-Mexico border.

The head of ICE, Todd Lyons, has hit back at critics, stating that there are around 1,600 arrests daily to target "dangerous criminals." The major contention point is that there are some people who have seen their livelihoods impacted, having stayed in the US for decades without the necessary paperwork. That has now resulted in mass protests in Los Angeles against the increasing number of migrant raids, with Garcia speaking out, just like Canelo Alvarez had done.

"I may have voted for Trump, but I can’t stay silent about what’s happening with ICE in LA. These aren’t just [‘illegals’] or statistics, they’re people. Hardworking immigrants, especially Mexicans, who pay taxes, raise families, build our communities, and are part of the people we love. Ripping them away from their homes is not just policy, it’s pain. We can have borders without losing our humanity," Garcia said

"I think that fear is what consumes you, fear is what consumes your head, not to do, what if it can happen or it can not happen." "In the end, I think everyone came here to improve, to have a better life, to get ahead. I personally think they should analyze whether it is worth being here being afraid, not going out, being fugitives from the law, if it is worth staying here or going to their country," Canelo stated
