Ortiz Sr.: Vergil Missed $16M-Plus Ennis Payday

Vergil Ortiz Jr. lost out on a payday of more than $16 million when a fight with Jaron Ennis was shut down.

That makes the Keith Thurman fight a costly consolation prize rather than the marquee bout fans wanted. Ortiz Sr. said Ennis was at the top of the list in his son’s settlement agreement, with Thurman at the very bottom.

“I don’t know how much I can say legal-wise… but Vergil was offered a lot of money, a lot more money, and it could even be north of that,” Ortiz Sr.

Ortiz Sr. said the fight was deliberately blocked but never named who was responsible.
