Reeves Hospitalized In Critical But Stable Condition

Lee Reeves is in a Dublin hospital in a critical but stable condition following a tenth-round knockout loss to Gary Cully on Saturday night.

Reeves was treated with oxygen at ringside after the stoppage, stretchered out of the 3Arena, and transported to hospital. The latest update from Queensberry Promotions confirmed his status without providing further medical detail.

"Lee Reeves is still in hospital, in a critical but stable condition. We will know more in the coming days, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Lee and his family," the promotion

Reeves was competing for the vacant BUI Celtic lightweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super lightweight title. The contest went the distance of ten rounds before ending in the final round in circumstances that will be difficult to forget for anyone inside the arena. Reeves protested the first knockdown, disputing the call.

Cully resolved any ambiguity with the second knockdown — a left hand landed cleanly and put Reeves on the canvas in brutal fashion, bringing an immediate stoppage. What followed ringside was the image that overrode everything else from the night. Queensberry chairman Frank Warren addressed the situation directly.

Cully, who won the fight, spoke about his opponent after leaving the ring: "My prayers and thoughts are with Lee Reeves. Hopefully he's okay. He came in there as a big underdog after fighting relatively at a lower level up until now. But he really showed that he can operate at a higher level. Huge credit to him."

Reeves remains in critical but stable condition. The medical team in Dublin is monitoring his situation, and further updates are expected over the coming days.
