Ramos Jr Pulled From Nursultanov Title Defense
Jesus Ramos Jr has withdrawn from his interim WBC middleweight title defense against Meiirim Nursultanov after falling ill Thursday night.
Ramos came down with food poisoning less than 24 hours before Saturday's scheduled bout in Los Angeles, per Lance Pugmire. The fight served as the co-feature to the Isaac Cruz-Nestor Bravo card and will be rescheduled, according to a promotional release obtained by Bad Left Hook.
Nursultanov's Long Wait Continues
The cancellation extends Nursultanov's wait for a full title shot. The Kazakhstani contender has held mandatory status for years and already settled for pursuing the interim strap after being passed over for the main belt. Nursultanov carries a 20-1 record with 11 knockouts.
Rising middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight Daniel Blancas now takes the co-main slot against Sergio Jimenez. The 39-year-old Jimenez lost his lone significant test to Deon Nicholson and brings a 17-1-1 mark with 15 stoppages.
Filipino Olympian Eumir Marcial opens the televised portion against Omar Ulises Huerta, who dropped a decision to Vito Mielnicki in April. Marcial competes for the Philippines at the Asian Games next week and holds a 7-0 record as a pro.
