De Los Santos accepts Valenzuela knockout, wants rematch

Aaron Clarke

Edwin De Los Santos says he will not dwell on the punch that ended his lightweight bout with Jose Valenzuela, insisting he was stunned rather than hurt and expects a second chance.

“I will let the appeal go through the proper channels, but I am not going to focus on the illegal hit. I got caught with a good shot. I was stunned, but not hurt. I won't make any excuses. Eventually I'm going to get the opportunity to fight him again.”

De Los Santos lost by knockout in the second round to Valenzuela. The lightweight has lodged an appeal over the finish, but told ESPN he is not using the disputed punch as the basis for his case. De Los Santos said the shot landed cleanly and he takes responsibility for the stoppage.
